An Historic Estate enjoing peace and complete privacy

The Charm of the former Times

A Former Monastery close to the Picturesque Village of Valbonne

Built in 1697, this former Monastery provides all modern comforts and amenities with beautiful floodlit gardens and secluded grounds over 10 hectares, planted with matures trees, flowering shrubs and a vast number of ancient olive trees, ensuring privacy, tranquility and the pleasure of owning an exceptional home filled with charm and history.

The Domaine de la Sylviane comprises several buildings including the Main Residence, a former stone built Monastery constructed by the monks of the order of Saint Honorat. They tilled the ground and farmed the property for 130 years.

The descendents of this order still occupy the monastery on the « Islands of Lérins » in the bay of Cannes and even today the 500 olive trees on the Domaine produce 800 litres of olive oil under the label « Domaine de la Sylviane ». The Main Residence has a noble allure and faces the driveway and grassy courtyard.

THE MAIN RESIDENCE “THE MONASTERY”

Ancient stone steps lead to the antique entrance door, which is adorned with a magnificent Wisteria vine. Renovated over the years, whilst retaining all the charm and character of Provence, the house enjoys the comfort of a modern style.

The Monastery comprises, at entrance level, 3 adjoining salons, each with fireplace and opening onto a vast summer terrace. At the same level is found the Master bedroom suite with dressing room. At the garden level is a study, cosy, beamed, winter dining area with fireplace, a professional kitchen and a second, very spacious, sunlit interior dining room which opens onto a truly delightful vine covered pergola ideal for entertaining numerous guests. On the upper floor are 4 bedroom suites, each with elegant bathroom, plus a bedroom for Nanny.

THE GUEST COTTAGE “LA FERME”

Adjoining the main Residence « La Ferme » is divided into two totally independent apartments. At garden level a charming bright and spacious 2 bedroom apartment opening onto the parkland and above, at ground floor level, an especially attractive split level one bedroom guest apartment with balcony and views over the grounds.

LE PIGEONNIER

Set slightly away from the Monastery is a self contained, single level cottage, transformed from an ancient dovecote to provide 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, attractive salon with fireplace and family kitchen. All rooms give onto either gardens or terraces.

LA BERGERIE

Probably the oldest building on the Domaine, this truly picturesque cottage has been transformed to make an alluring home with 2 upstairs bedrooms with bathrooms, bright, beamed living room with fireplace, study and large eat-in kitchen, giving onto the extensive olive groves and shady terraces.

SWIMMING POOL AREA

The enormous (20 x 10), heated swimming-pool is away from the Main Residence and the cottage, on a plateau above the Domain, with beautiful open views of the Countryside, surrounded by lawns with a stone built pool-house equipped with changing rooms, shower and barbecue together with a light and sunny gym room.

LA TOUR

The Domaine de la Sylviane provides residential staff accomodation in « La Tour », formerly an oil press which has been converted to offer two independent circular bedrooms and bathrooms. Two further caretaker’s cottages are found at one of the entrances to the property.

THE LAND

The Domain, surrounded by 10 hectares of land, welcomes many horses, a tennis-court and includes 500 olive trees producing 800 liters of olive oil every year under the label “Domaine de la Sylviane”. Possibility to land a helicopter.
